We had a very entertaining guide walk us from the Abbesses Metro Stop, up the hill to Sacre Coeur.  Along the way, we heard wonderful stories about the artists that gathered there, the Moulin de la Gallette, the more famous Moulin Rouge, and of course Sacre Couer - built in the 19th century.  At the end of our tour, we walked through the spectacular Sacre Couer, and then enjoyed watching the artists at Place du Tertre (Artists Square) and perusing the many art shops.
