What can I say about Versailles? It's opulent, it's decadent... it's very very crowded! One of the wonderful perks of a Rick Steves Tour is that you have reservations and personalized tour guides for many of the most popular attractions. This definitely came in handy at the very crowded Palace of Versailles where the line seemed a mile long and almost as wide.
THE PALACE OF VERSAILLES
Knowing a little bit of history makes visiting historic places more enjoyable. With our own tour guide, we could ask in-depth questions. Places like Versailles can be overwhelming without context and our guide did a great job helping us understand the rise and fall of the French Monarchy. The symbol to the right, representing the Sun King, was found throughout the Palace.
